Are low income bus riders missing out on real-time bus arrival information?

While smartphone usage has increased among low-income communities, evidence suggests that many users in these areas do not have data plans. This means that low income bus riders with smartphones aren’t able to access real-time bus arrival time information via apps.

Jeff Rosenblum at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology sought to find out how bus arrival time information can reach every member of the community, and discovered that SMS could be the solution.
