Catholics no longer need to visit a confessional booth to bare their souls to a priest now that a new iPhone app allows confession to occur via smartphone.
Protestant churches are also availing themselves of new technology by streaming sermons online, while rabbis are using the internet to track their students’ progress toward b’nai mitzvah, and Muslims are using GPS technology to help them know which direction to face during daily prayers.
“It’s the world we live in now,” says the Rev. Dr. Ronald Cole-Turner, a professor of theology and ethics at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in East Liberty.
