4 Ways Texting Can Increase Supporter and Donor Loyalty

Nonprofit Donor Writing Check

As a successful nonprofit you need to build a team of loyal and supportive fans. Texting can help you make that connection and can increase supporter and donor loyalty.

Do You Have a Membership Card?

Think of it like a loyalty program. A lot of for-profit companies have loyalty programs with membership cards or discounts or points. They reward their repeat customers and keep them in the loop.

Nonprofits can do the same thing and build their fan base. You might not be giving discounts, but you’re giving people insider access.

Why Texting?

While membership cards are cool, they may not be practical for every nonprofit. If you don’t have a physical location and customers coming and going, then a membership card is just for kicks.

But texting is a medium that can make your loyalty program even more effective. Texts actually get read, unlike email, which means you’re getting more impact for your effort.

Remember that your goal isn’t just to improve your relationship with fans, but to also make them champions who spread your cause to their friends.

Here are four ways texting can build supporter and donor loyalty:

1. Build Emotional Connections

You want to connect with your supporters, and nothing is more powerful for connection than story. Tell stories of what your nonprofit is doing and get those stories to your fans. Post articles or videos with those stories, and then send links via text.

This is the lifeblood of your connection with fans. You want incredible stories that make your fans so excited they can’t help but share with their friends.

2. Share Positive Results

Your nonprofit works, right? You’re doing good? Then share those positive results. Show your supporters that their contributions made a difference. Every time you have an event, program or initiative, send a follow-up text touting the results. Show that their involvement is making a difference.

3. Be Responsive

Supporters and fans often become champions and ambassadors when they forge a personal connection with your organization. They want to feel like an insider, and that happens when you can respond and interact with your loyal supporters.

Make it easy for your fans to get in touch with you and get a response. Use text messaging to get more contact details and follow up. That personal interaction will form a lasting bond.

4. Make Sure They’re Happy

Keep an eye on how your fans are doing with surveys. You can send quick surveys by text or send a link for a longer survey. Monitoring donor satisfaction is important, so be sure to stay in touch, using the most effective communication channel (texting).
